About Us
I remember growing up and watching my mother
spend countless hours in the kitchen to feed our family of seven.
She always made the best baked goods and we always had something
sweet in the house. Once I reached the age where I could help her
in the kitchen, I was right there measuring, baking, cutting, icing,
and tasting each and every dessert. My passion for baking grew
throughout high school and that led me to Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of
Culinary Arts, where I broadened my skills and expanded my
learning.
From there I moved to Columbus to complete an internship
under Master Chef Hartmut Handke at Handke’s Cuisine.
I moved on to work at a local bakery for the holiday season and then
became a cake
decorator at a local retail store.
One day a friend said to me,
“Your cakes are so delicious and unique, I would never buy a cake
from anyone else”. Hence, Bess’ Cakery began.
I now have a
home-based bakery, and am fully licensed by the USDA and a
registered business with the State of Ohio.
I have also taught cake decorating classes at Joann's Etc.
part time and would like to have
a retail shop of my own someday. I have been decorating cakes for a
total of 9 years now, and love to try new things each and every day!
